El DORADO COUNTY The Centralized Eligibility List
For Subsidized Child Care and Development Programs
Do you need help paying for child care?
What is the Centralized Eligibility List?
- The C.E.L. is ONE LIST that connects income eligible families to subsidized child care and development programs throughout El Dorado County.
What is subsidized child care?
- Subsidized child care helps lower income families by covering their child care costs, based on financial need.
Who qualifies for subsidized child care?
- Eligibility is based on a need for service and state income guidelines.
- Income requirements, based on family size, are established by the California Department of Education, Child Development Division.
Child care need is based on one or more of the following:
- Employment
- Enrollment in school/training
- Incapacitated– unable to care for your child(ren) for part of the day
- Referral from Child Protective Services or a legally qualified professional
- Seeking Employment
What sources of income count?
- wages/salaries
- self-employment profits
- child/spousal support
- cash aid (TANF or CalWORKS)
- disability insurance payments, other income
How can I get subsidized child care?
- Contact Choices for Children or another participating agency to complete an eligibility application. If you are determined eligible at that time, you will be placed on the Eligibility List.
What happens after I apply?
- You will be placed on the CEL based on your income and family size. When there are openings at a participating agency, families are called for a preliminary screening, starting with the lowest rank number, “1”, and moving up until the program is full. You do not automatically receive child care when you apply, however being on the CEL increases your chances of receiving services because all funded programs will have access to your family’s application.
When should I update my application?
- Whenever your personal information changes (income, family size, need for child care, address, phone number, etc.) call us immediately. These changes can affect your rank number, and it is important to keep current, accurate information.
What about teen parents?
- Teen parents qualify if they are working or going to school and possibly, if enrolled in a teen parenting program.
How long is the wait?
- The wait varies. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to give you an estimate. Contact is made when child care slots become available at a participating agency, starting with eligible families at the lowest rank number and continuing until funding runs out or all spaces are filled. Being on the Centralized Eligibility List is not a guarantee of services.
The easy to access application connects you to subsidized child care agencies and child development programs throughout El Dorado County. What this means for busy parents is ONE CENTRALIZED LIST— one application to access child care funding you may be eligible to receive
